Misery in Food: Some Effects of Gluttony

"For the heavy drinker and the glutton will come to poverty, And drowsiness will clothe a man with rags" (Prov 23:21).

"For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things
" (Phil 3:18-19).

Overeating is a sin. It makes me feel ugly because my belly becomes swollen and I feel (even though I’m not) fat. It makes me worry that I’ll soon and inevitably be overweight like many of my good friends who used to be thin but have since let themselves go. It expands my stomach so that the next time I eat I have to eat more to get the same full-feeling, which makes me more vulnerable to perpetuating this bad habit. Somehow it manages to eliminate my feeling of confidence in all my labors. It makes me feel altogether weak because my body must expend too much energy at once to digest the overload of food. This weakness hinders me from diligence. It hinders me from joy by weighing my conscience down with great guilt. This in turn hinders me from being able to bless others because my vessel becomes temporarily clogged by my guilt and weakness. When I overeat, I am making a god out of my appetite. Though I know it's wrong, at the time it seems more desirable than what I know is right. Worst of all, it is an evidence of my taking more pleasure in food than in God. How sad. God help me.

Furthermore, if you want to fix your blog problem, go to "edit posts" and shorten the underline on this post or completely take it out, it's leaking over into the sidebar, which is why the rest of the sidebar is messed up.

B-DIDDY!!

You got a blog -- I'm so proud.

Just don't wear the leopard suit when you blog. I can tell when you are wearing it.

Don't.

:)

PS- Concerning your comment on my blog: You should have heeded my warning about the dip... if your stomach implodes don't come crying to me!

YAY! BRADLEY'S A BLOGGER!! I bet Jonathan talked you into it, eh? How fun...

As far as the eating blog goes...MAN! Do I feel you there...

I've recently been trying to discipline myself to working out at least five times a week (so far, so good!). However, training myself to be a good steward of my body in regards to my eating habits... I've got a sweet tooth that could put the Cookie Monster to shame (which - by the way - I hear they're changing his name to the "Carrot Monster" to further deter sedentary Sesame Street watchers from following our furry blue friend's example).

So, I'm - uh - still working on that one. Working at the caf makes it a little tricky. ;)

Yeah, I guess you could say Jonathan talked me into it. It would be more accurate to say that he exampled me into it. When he first created his blog, he practically lived at his computer for a few days. Every thought became a potential blog. It was a creative outlet for his gift of writing. His blogs were so well written, I was inspired (mainly from his first blog). His thoughts were exposed to many people. I thought, "Why not I?"

OH yeah, thanks for the compliments, well at least the part where you said I didn't suck back in the days of the first blog.

Jonathan--I didn't mean to give you the impression that your other blogs weren't any good. Your first one is still my favorite though.

Bradley- you and Jonathan need to submit your blogs to www.sbtsblogs.net

it's a great way to let other students link to your blogs and offers great community.. and it makes it easier for ME to know when you post a new blog post! So, essentially, it's all about me. ME. MMMEEEE!!!!

Bradley, your comment on Austin's post about my "dragqueen roommate's tiger suit" was hilarious. HILARIOUS!

I have a slide show about coffee to put together when I get home, and I think you know what I mean :)

Bradley. It's time. POST.

BTW - regarding disclosing to the blogging world about my "decisions": I am always hesitant to write about such things online... but I will think about it. ;)

Maybe you should add 'eating coffee' to the list of gluttonous tasks that are not glorifying...thoughts?

At least not the way you do it, right? By the way Bradley, did you eat the rest of my bacon grease? I know you like to mix it with mayonnaise and put it in your peanut butter.

Good post about gluttony.
